Fun premise: Santa's naughty brother

I enjoyed the premise behind these three stories: Santa's bad boy brother, Damon, sets out to wreak holiday havoc and instead brings three couples together. I hope Damon makes an appearance next December in another Blaze and gets his own story. I'm enjoying this Blaze trend with 3 short stories in a book, each one makes for the perfect length of bedtime reading. Because each of these stories are written by such great authors, all three are a real treat.

About the Author
Christina Maslach is Professor of Psychology at the University of California at Berkeley. She received her A.B., magna cum laude, in Social Relations from Harvard-Radcliffe College in 1967, and her Ph.D. in Psychology from Stanford University in 1971. She has conducted research in a number of areas within social and health psychology. However, she is best known as one of the pioneering researchers on job burnout, and the author of the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI), the most widely used research measure in the burnout field. In addition to numerous articles, her books on this topic include Burnout: The Cost of Caring; the co-edited volume, Professional Burnout: Recent Developments in Theory and Research (with Wilmar Schaufeli); The Truth About Burnout (with Michael Leiter); Preventing Burnout and Building Engagement: A Complete Program for Organizational Renewal (with Michael Leiter), and Banishing Burnout: Six Strategies for Improving Your Relationship with Work (with Michael Leiter). The latter publications are based on Professor Maslach's work as a consultant with various organizations on issues of job burnout. Currently, she is the founding co-editor, with Michael Leiter, of the e-journal, Burnout Research, which will launch in 2014. Professor Maslach focuses on the development of a conceptual model of the burnout process, which articulates the key relationships between personal, social, and contextual variables. She takes an approach to assessing the interaction between person and situation variables in the workplace. She has identified six core dimensions on which there can be a significant mismatch between the person and the workplace, all of which predict higher levels of burnout (these six areas are assessed by the Areas of Worklife Scale). She focuses on the positive antithesis of burnout, work engagement, as a better framework for developing interventions, and has conducted several longitudinal assessments of burnout and engagement, which are providing opportunities to test both new research hypotheses and new intervention processes. She is also working actively with colleagues in China and Latin America, to establish standard translations of the MBI and other measures, to develop a robust program of cross-cultural research.

Even more relevant today

I'm sorry to see that this book is out of print, because it's even more pertinent today than when it was first written. The author describes the problem of "burnout" common in people in the helping professions, and points out that its causes come from the work environment rather than the individual. This is in contrast to most other studies of burnout, which view it as strictly the individual's problem and thus something to be treated on the individual level. She identifies the institutional problems that can lead to burnout -- e.g., excessive workloads and lack of control -- and offers suggestions on how to improve the work environment. In the era of "managed care," underfunded schools, and lack of support (financial and emotional) for people in the helping professions, her advice is more important than ever. Her 1997 book is excellent, but it focuses more on corporations, while I think the helping professions still have the worst problems with burnout. The writing in this book is more heavily "academic," but it's a thorough and believable study, and still very much worth reading.

Acción, intriga, odio, orgullo, suspenso, amor, romance, valentia, superación y todos esos ingredientes son los que arman esta bellisima historia la cual no puedes parar de leer hasta llegar al final.. Hubo un momento donde sentia que no podia seguir leyendo por el rumbo que tomaba la historia, me hiciste sufrir, pero claro todo tiene su por qué..Chloe encantadisima de leer otra de tus historias. La recomiendo al 100%.. No pueden dejar pasar esta historia.

Una historia realmente buena. La historia Erick y Mónica como encuentra el amor y se hace cada vez más fuerte, Ella encierra un horrible pasado del que no puede escapar. El lucha con la enfermedad de su madre y el miedo a perderla. Un asesino anda suelto y deberás descubrir quién puede ser. Como tratar de un pasado que nos pwrsigue, como el amor ayuda a Mónica a enfrentarlo y poder luchar con su peor enemigo. Descubrir que las personas no son lo que parece y Eric se llevará un sorpresa. Lo más triste sentir perder el hombre de tu vida cuando lo encuentras y por fin piensas que puedes ser feliz. Descubre una gran historia y descubre si el amor lo puede todo aún más allá dela muerte. Chloe Santana nos presenta nuevamente una gran historia llena de intriga, dolor, odio y amor. Atrevete a leerla y se que te atrapará.

Una historia que tiene de todo; suspenso, intriga, acción, romance, erotismo. Muy bien redactada. Te crea ese interes en querer leer mas. No tan solo sobre los crimenes, si no tambien por saber lo que le ocurre a ella. Casi al final, no me podia creer lo que estaba leyendo y mis ojos se llenaron de lágrimas, sorprendiendome nuevamente con el giro que la historia tomó. El suspenso está presente desde el principio hasta el final de esta interesante y hermosa historia donde al final, ninguno de los protagonistas abandonan sus intereses ni su forma de ser por ninguno de ellos y lograron llevar sus intereses al unisono sin sacrificar sus vidas.

This book is concise and has meat. I read the entire book in one sitting. A total eye opener.
I always knew Content was God, but this book puts a lot of structure and process around content, its creation and management. The author keeps the focus on strategy and doesn't deviate.

If I had to abbreviate the learnings in this book, it would be:

Content strategy process
1. Audit :
Content Inventory: Title, URL, content
What content do you have? (Text, PDF, Video, Audio, Forms)
How is the content organized? (break it into sections, what does each section have)
Who creates the content?
Where does the content live?
Qualitative audit : Is content accurate, useful, well written, user friendly, used by audience

2. Creation:
What content to be created,
Why
Where will it come from
How will it be structured
Who will write it

3. Delivery:
Who will review, edit, approve, load
How will you deliver content (vehicles: website, blog, social media).
Which tools will users use to get to the content?

4. Governance:

I bought this book awhile ago, and it's well-loved by pencil marks and sticky notes. But this makes sense; I'm a content strategist.

Still, I'm convinced this book is not just for content strategists and professionals who practice content strategy -- whether they're called content strategists, content directors, web strategists, or whatever.

It's truly a must-read for business owners and executives who recognize that their web content is an big asset and want to ensure they have the team and resources in place to protect and grow their content.

It's short. It's clear. It's easy to "get." Anyone who works with a content strategist benefits from this book, even if they skim the headlines, examples, and bulleted lists. You'll get to know what the content strategist is thinking and why s/he's asking all those pesky questions.

For example, if you're a writer, you'll better understand how your content is contributing to the company goals, and this may help you generate more ideas. If you're a designer, you will better understand why the content strategist is needed so early in a project.

I found this book tremendously useful in helping me communicate content strategy concepts and benefits for different companies. I highly recommend "Content Strategy for the Web" for everyone who cares about the effectiveness of their web content.

Halvorson lays out why content is important (with an emphasis on text), how to evaluate your existing content (because your current content probably sucks), how to create your web content (with a legit process for getting it done), and how to govern (a better word for manage) your web content.

A pretty web interface means nothing without useful, creative, interesting content. Content Strategy for the Web is a welcome complement to books that are all about design, design, design, because Halvorson puts the focus on where it should be in the first place: content.

This short-chock-full-of-quality-information-you'll-refer-back-to-later book is perfect for designers who don't care about words but need to, content creators who want to be reminded that what you do matters (and grow your knowledge at the same time!), and small business owners who need an intro to the who/what/where/when/why/how of content strategy for the web.
