About the Author
Peter Ralston began studying material arts at age nine in Singapore. He was a Sumo champion at his high school in Japan and a collegiate fencing and Judo champion while a Physiology/Anatomy major at the University of California at Berkeley. He founded the Cheng Hsin School in Oakland, where he teaches a range of courses on martial arts and ontology (the study of being).

A Must For Internal Stylists

This is the second copy of this book I have purchased. I gave the first one to a friend not knowing how hard it would be to find afterward.
This is the companion volume to Cheng Hsin: Principles of Effortless Power. Both books studied together are written well enough to allow the dilligent learner to grasp the concepts and techniques taught in this book. That doesn't mean it's easy but Peter Ralston Has given every detail possible without showing up at your doorstep to deliver the book himself. Highly Recommended.

I have just acquired a copy of “Capture the Color” by Lynne McGee, and I must say I am very happy to have it in my collection. This lovely book is filled with flowers and birds and animals and houses, and the most gorgeous little mushrooms you could imagine. It will be so exciting to see these drawings come to life when coloured. Lynne is a very talented artist, and I would thoroughly recommend her book to all of those who enjoy adult colouring. An added bonus is its compact size. This book would fit comfortably in the average or slightly larger handbag, making it a great way to occupy yourself during a long flight.

I absolutely love Lynne's artwork. This delightful little book brings me much pleasure. I love the compact size as is easy to take anywhere. The beautiful designs and the variety of drawings are a delight to colour. Another thing which I especially did like was that each page has a blank underside which I hadn't found in other books and this is awesome as I can take out my favourites or every single one if I like and put them on the wall without wasting any others on the reverse side.. I highly recommend grabbing yourself a copy of Capture the Color by Lynne McGee

Willing to do the work

I like this book. I agree with the others who say that the first part is worth the price of the book and the contribution by Gail Parent could have been left out.
I am using this book to reinforce what I do well and raise my skills in other areas. I have used the little exercises (fill in the blanks, etc.) to learn more about myself. I have used the affirmations when I felt down and I am starting to see that they work! I used to worry that I would not meet someone with whom I could have a "healthy" relationship. Lately, I worry less about that and I expend more energy in becoming healthier myself. What that boils down to is accepting the truths; some painful but some reassuring. For example, feeling needy. I never really wanted to admit that I felt needy at times, but now I realize what an advantage I have if I can simply observe it and decide how to handle myself. I have read the book through my tears once or twice. I have actually chosen to "be my own best friend" when that was the right thing to do. I'm feeling pretty optimistic these days. My current relationship is going well and if it folds, I'll be that much better for the next one. This book covers every area of relationships and I find it to be a solid handbook (owner's manual, if you will) for all this relationship stuff.

Self-esteem & Self-defense In The Battle of the Sexes

Geared more towards women than men (I suppose because few men read these kinds of books!), this book uses a somewhat forced but interesting parallel with an ancient text on war with modern day romance. Lots of good advice, although some of it is common sense and a rehash of what we already know. Still, the reminders are good and some of the advice is priceless. My favorite tidbit: men realize they are falling in love with you BY pursuring you so don't let yourself be caught too quickly--they won't get it. Yes, the play-hard-to-get theme once again, but with a few refreshing twists and more context that shows why and how it all works to everyone's benefit. Another gem: men care more about love and relationships than they like to reveal, as much as women do, actually. Well-written and intriguing.

Dead on advice!!

Coming from a male who has been extremely fortunate to have been very successful with women (happily married now!) -- I say that the advice the author gives on how to "close the deal" is 100% accurate. This is really a one-sided book however: it is written for women. The insightful direction given is for women on how to deal with men in all stages of a loving relationship. While I feel I can go on and on, let me simply suggest that every woman who is even slightly confused by male behavior with respects to love and committment to buy and read this book very carefully.

The most education I've ever gotten for 3 bucks

Oh MAN did I learn a lot from this! I had expected a bunch of recipes to make with the packaged stuff, but this went all out! From making my own ramen noodles to preparing my meat and soup in an authentic Japanese manner, this book provides easy-to-follow instructions and thorough detail to create an extremely interesting piece of work.
And my does it get down to detail - ramen's a lot of work, and I had no idea! This book will definitely take practice to follow effectively, because making proper ramen, udon, or soba really is complex, but Matsushima makes them accessible to a whole new audience. And, to reiterate, it's only $3! What a value!

This book has truly authentic recipes! I lived in Japan for 2 1/2 years, a married to a Japanese national and this is not one of those "Americanized"versions of noodle recipes. The ingredient measurements are given in Metric though, easily converted though.

I really like this book. I didn't have a lot of the ingredients I wanted to make some of the more complex recipes with but all in all not bad. There are some really easy recipes in the beginning and they tasted amazing. I think my lack of good stores to buy things has hindered me a bit though.

Outstanding and Imaginative Scholarship

Duane Roller's book is a fascinating portrait of a ruler, a kingdom, and an epoch that deserve to be known more widely. Juba II -- royal prince, ruler of an obscure North African kingdom at Rome's sufferance, scientist and litterateur -- is himself an extrordinarily interesting subject. Add to that the presence of Kleopatra Selene, daughter of Cleopatra and Mark Antony, as well as a thorough and well-documented study of the rich culture of a very late Hellenistic court just before that tradition's demise, and you have a work of scholarship that is both original and informative without resort to the pedantry that too often plagues scholarly studies of the ancient world. Well done!

Giuba II, Kleopatra Selelene and the ancient Mauretania

This is a wanderful book, a very scientific instrument on the history and archaeology of ancient Mauretania (today Algeria and Marocco, in western North Africa), with a complete documentation about the cultural program of Juba and Kleopatra, the most important sign of the kingdom. The book also offer a complete bibliography and list of greek and latin sources. A perfect work, only poor of images.
