Good over-view for many world faiths. Only issue i have is on page 143, where it states "The stone was the sacred stone upon which Abraham nearly sacrificed his son, Ishmael."

Ishmael? Does Islam hold the belief that it was this son (and not Isaac, as the Bible reports)?

May be the most beautiful book on Disney Parks ever

The author conducted 75 interviews with Imagineers for his well researched book of Disneyland Paris, and Disney Imagineers have called it, "Probably the best book ever done on a Disney theme park". One of my favorite features of this book is it the first (and still only) to really cover the background story of each land (such as Adventureland), as a story is always created for each land and attraction, even shops and restaurants, to use as a tool to guide the design process. Walt Disney believed story drove everything else, and everything needs a story. The book includes photos of attraction design from concept art, models, posters, behind the scenes, construction photos, to completed attraction photos. Even with all these photos, the text is very detailed and I enjoyed it.

Even architecture is explained as well. This book explains the thought process from concept to finished attraction more than any book I have ever seen on Disney. Most of the pictures in this book have not been seen anywhere else. Pirates of the Caribbean alone is featured for twenty-six pages in this book, Phantom Manor has sixteen. Even the themed hotels and the plans for them are included. Discovery Bay with its walk through of the Nautilus and other attractions that are not at the US parks. Events like parades, holiday celebrations, and fireworks are included. Even the Wild Bill Dinner show is here. 250 of the pictures are from the archives of Walt Disney Imagineering, WDI, formerly known as WED.

This book went out of print fast from its first edition in 2002, and is now getting very expensive as it one of THE books to get on Disney Imagineering and theme parks. The book is a large coffee table format book, weighing nearly 5 pounds. It is 9" x 12"tall x 1.2" thick, at 320 pages with 750 color photos, including 2 page aerial photos of the Disneyland Paris park. Even the endpapers are huge beautiful 2 page spreads of Imagineering concept art. Hardbound with a pictorial dustjacket. The quality of the paper, binding, photos, ink, dustjacket, are probably the best I have ever seen for a Disney book, and that is saying a lot.
There is also an extra rare special limited edition of this book, published at the the same time as the first edition, it is limited to 2,000 copies and they are individually numbered. They included 4 frame-able Imagineering concept art lithographs. Also the white lettering on the title in the dustjacket is in gold letters on the limited edition. This version weighs 4 ounces more than the regular copy, due to a paper upgrade. This is incredible, considering the regular version already had better paper than any of my other Disney books.

For top Disney Theme park books, this rates with the classic books "The Nickel Tour", and "Disneyland Inside Story". I highly recommend!

C'est un livre dont la genèse a été presque aussi longue que celle du parc elle-même. Et il est d'ailleurs paru au moment où ouvrait le second parc européen. Mais cet ouvrage majestueux se concentre donc sur le premier, sans doute le plus beau Magic Kingdom bâti par Disney. C'est que ses concepteurs se sont sentis investis d'une mission particulière : être les héritiers de la qualité Disney sur un continent avec des exigences artistiques et historiques bien plus fortes (car inscrites dans notre culture) que sur son marché originel.

Mission réussie. Ainsi que le montrent les illustrations (concepts inédits et réalisations ultérieures), aucun effort, aucun labeur n'ont été épargnés lors de la construction de ce parc. Mais surtout, le texte, composé d'interview de dizaines de concepteurs, les fameux "Imagineers", dont beaucoup ont depuis quitté la compagnie ou pris leur retraite, est également un must. Didier Ghez, historien respecté, signe là un livre indispensable pour les fans.

Dix ans après sa publication, ce livre reste LE livre de référence sur le "making of" de Disneyland Paris.

The best Disney Theme Park Book I Own

And I own a lot of them. This is a book that was written by an Imagineer who helped create the magical worlds. The photos are amazing, and they give a wonderful sense of scale and scope that the Park offers. The only (ever so slight) downside is that the English translation can be very literal, and that makes it come across a little dry. Still, this is worth tracking down for any Disney fan.

A Courgeous Truth Teller and a Man of Integrity

This book was suggested by someone whom I have gotten to know doing book reviews. I am NOT "anti-semitic", but will probably be called one for supporting The Other Side Of Deception. In the vein of Susan Lindauer's Extreme Prejudice and Sibel Edmonds Classified Woman, and Abraham Bolden's The Echo From Dealey Plaza, this book has a message the extreme right wings of both the American and Israeli governments are complicit in ensuring that peace never comes to the Middle East. Victor Ostrovsky is a peace seeking patriot who was willing to risk his life and his family's to expose the devious policies of the Mossad. He took enormous risks to assist the forces trying to expose the Mossad for what they really are; war seeking and traitorous power seeking lunatics. The Mossad has perfected the use of every illegitimate means possible to label those who disagree with their methods as "anti-semitic". Eisenhower, JFK and George H. W. Bush were the few who stood up to the right wing Likud and war mongers like Netanyahu who talk out of both sides of their mouths, talking peace and statehood for the Palestinians all the while planning or using every devious weapon in their arsenal, including atomic, bacteriological and chemical weapons. Not to mention counterfeit money to destabilize countries, assassination and arming the extreme militants on the other team.

My only fault is that Victor refuses to believe that George H.W. Bush had anything to do with Iran Contra. That is simply not true. One only has to read Compromised, Clinton, Bush and The CIA by Terry Reed to discover the truth. In addition, why would Bush pardon everyone involved in the escapade on Christmas Eve 1992 if he had nothing to hide?

I highly recommend this book and urge the readers and thinkers to do some critical thinking about why the world, particularly the Middle East has been in some form of "conflict" since World War Two. Much like our own CFR and CIA, it is to their advantage to constantly encourage conflict to sell more arms and forment more revolution. As President Kennedy famously said, "Those who make peaceful revolution impossible, will make violent revolution inevitable". I side with patriots like Victor who believe in peace and a two state solution for the Israelis and Palestinians.

Several reviewers have already documented the atrocities, such as the testing of bacteriological weapons on the black South Africans and the Palestinians and quite a few other illegal and inhumane acts by the Mossad, so I won't be redundant.

Critical Reading for those who care about the US in 2004

For a thinking person, the revelations in this book should spawn probing questions about the Mossad's part in geopolitics from pre-9-11 to 2004. Ostrovsky outlines how the Mossad, unlike any other secret intelligence service in the world, uses the vast Diaspora as "assets" to do their bidding. It is organized so that the Diaspora (over 50,000 strong) become temporary Mossad agents on an as-needed basis.
This structure accomplishes two things:
(1) By playing on the 'help the homeland' aspect of requesting help for Israel from the Diaspora through whatever the 'asset's' position or job skill can produce, it naturally compartmentalizes the significance of a job, and reduces costs. The Mossad has only 1200 agents worldwide, but calls on the considerable PR skills of the B'nai B'rith, JDL, and ADL to advance its aims on an as-needed basis. Ostrovsky shows in event after event how this is by design.
(2) The Mossad can get away with meddling in the politics of foreign countries by labeling as "anti-semitic" any objection to its methods; or similarly, by labeling as "anti-semitic" any objections if its gets caught. Again, Ostrovsky shows in example after example how this is by design.
The recent 2004 scandal in New Zealand is a case in point. This involved Mossad agents caught stealing New Zealand passports from paraplegics. Or the more disturbing US-based AP reports from Tennessee, Georgia, and Florida in the last five weeks in which Israeli agents were caught near nuclear sub and fuel stations, or trying to enter federal installations. The only reporter willing to follow up these stories is Daniel Hopsicker, a respected journalist, of online MadCowProd News. When you realize that these agents caused an entire Navy Sub station with nuclear missles to close down (May 20, 2004) because sniffing dogs discovered bomb material in their moving trucks, it makes Ostrovsky's detailed warning about what the Mossad is doing in the US all the more alarming.
I think the information I found the most distressing was how the Mossad uses US national print and broadcast media and reporters as assets. This a propaganda machine that at this time can only lead to more US sons and daughters coming home from Iraq in body bags. I say this because Ostrovsky is adamant in this book, published in 1993 or 1994, that it has been the Mossad's express policy for years to get the US into war with Iraq.

Russell Staiff holds a PhD in art history from the University of Melbourne where he was the foundation lecturer in the postgraduate visual arts and tourism program. For Counterpunchers!

I am basically a 'junk-ball' pitcher. Persson's book is excellent. Its structures and bob & weave counterattacks are ideal for keeping your opponent off balance and neutralizing their pre-game prep, especially at the Club level. How many folks do you know who invest significant study in the Pirc/Modern? Not many. This is a massive treatment. I always steer my new students away from these 'give the heart-of-the-plate to the pitcher' strategies, but once you've invested the time in understanding them and developing a feel for them, you will find yourself more relaxed and comfortable than many of your more experienced opponents. My own fascination with this opening goes back to the days of Canadian GM Duncan Suttles (Subject of a three volume treatment Chess on the Edge) when it was derisively referred to as "the Rat." You may bleed points while you're learning to play on the first three ranks, but your return on investment will be the fun you having mud-wrestling like Duncan. Added bonus - what you learn can be applied from both sides of tyhe board.

Great book on modern defense

In-depth GM level analysis yet still an enjoyable read. Balanced evaluations. And it had the hippo!
