The book presents each theory in terms of the historical intellectual, sociological, political, and economic factors of the period during which it was developed and demonstrates the application of each theory through explanations of how each translated into the policies and programs of their day. It also demonstrates the contemporary uses of each theory and summarizes the major points of each. The third edition of Criminological Theory has been revised to include comprehensive literature references that reflect the latest views. It also provide expanded coverage of a number of topics, including postmodern criminology, a discussion of Chaos Theory, a separate chapter on Rational Choice and Routine Activities, and separate chapters on Gender/Feminist perspectives. The book also incorporates the latest references to research and theory testing within the discussion of each theory as well as new implications or applications of the theory in policy or criminal justice programming. An essential reference book for every legal professional and everyone involved in law enforcement.

About the Author
Marilyn D. McShane Professor of Criminal Justice, University of Houston Downtown Ph.D. (1985) Sam Houston State University Specialization: Institutional and community corrections, child abuse, criminal justice system management, and criminological theory. Dr. McShane has taught at the graduate and undergraduate level and has served on a number of national criminal justice professional organization boards. She often serves as a reviewer for the National Institute for Justice. At Cal State, San Bernardino (tenured professor) she received the faculty Professional Development Award in 1994 and she was Chair of the Department of Criminal Justice (tenured professor) at Northern Arizona University. At Prairie View A&M, she was the senior founding professor of the Juvenile Justice Doctoral Program. Her current appointment is at the University of Houston Downtown as an endowed professor and institute director. Dr. McShane Professor McShane has a consistent record of publication and grantsmanship (more than 50 books and articles, and directed several grants). Her editorial work includes a series of dissertations with LFB Scholarly Publishing and a scholarly monograph series with Greenwood / Praeger. She co-edited the award-winning "Encyclopedia of American Prisons "and is currently co-editing the" Encyclopedia of Juvenile Justice". Her most recent book is "Criminological Theory, "3rd Edition, coauthored with Frank P. Williams III.

Williams is a Fitzhenry and Whiteside author.

FRANK P. WILLIAMS III is Professor of Criminal Justice at the University of Houston, Downtown. He has taught for the past 30 years and was Chair at California State University, San Bernardino for nine years. He is the author of many books including Criminological Theory, now in its fourth edition, and Imagining Criminology.

Ordered this for my daughter. The book was in condition, with the exception of highlighting on some pages. This can make it a bit difficult for her to read sometimes, however. Overall, not too bad.

I have listened to Elite Word Power for the past couple of days and have been disappointed. I found it to be unstimulating and lacking a few basics which I think would turn it into a better program. Mainly, it gives you only the word and it's definition. I believe this is not enough and think that it should have included examples of word sentence application, synonyms, common mistakes and misinterpretations, etc. (Especially for us aural learners who are most apt to purchase a product like this.) There should be enough information for you to pause the CD and make up your own sentences (maybe 5 or 6) Just hearing a word and a short definition for me does nothing.
I also think this program should be condensed from 5,000 words to possibly 500 - 1000 of the least common words that should be known by the average college educated adult, as much of what is taught here should have been learned by the 8th grade. You would then have a very powerful program. I have also purchased Word Smart and may try out their CD, which I have not tried. They seem to include sentence usage, based upon a review that I had read earlier.

This vocabulary builder is the best because:
1. The Audio Format - Students use it because it's easy.
2. Comprehensive Selection of Words - This is the only vocabulary builder where a computer frequency analysis in combination with professors' expert opinions was used to identify collegiate words. Other vocabulary builders rely on author's arbitrary choices or just copy past SAT words.
3. Useful Mnemonics-Memory Course - Helps with vocabulary building and other subjects.
4. Price - Not cheap, but less than that $...infomercial vocabulary program.

For me the best way to improve my vocabulary was through a combination of audio and visual references, which was provided with these CDs. If you looking to improve your SAT score, or just trying to build your vocabulary, then these CDs are for you! These CDs include clear and easily understandable definitions of 5000 collegiate vocabulary words. With these CDs, listening for only a few minutes a day has dramatically improved my mastery of the English language.

LOVE this guide. It's so handy. I have put several hundred hours into Dragon Age Inquisition and wanted to go back and play the other games in the series. This guide had been a tremendous help in figuring out DA2, especially since it was drastically different from what I was used to. Joseph Benderksy's new edition of A Concise History of Nazi Germany manages to be concise and comprehensive—as well as up-to-date. I have used earlier editions in my courses on twentieth-century Germany with great success. It leads students through Nazism from its inception in post–World War I Germany to the years of the Third Reich and then into what he calls the ‘intractable Nazi legacy’ that lives on to this day. Nazism, it seems, will not go away. This book provides students with a solid platform from which to launch their exploration of the effects and the meaning of the Nazi phenomenon. (Karl A. Excellent Bible Study! Highly Recommend Ignatius Studies!

Wonderful combination of the scripture and the study aids! I'm on my third book from this Ignatius Catholic series and I can't recommend them highly enough. I like having the scripture at the top of each page and the comments, explanations, and additional information at the bottom of each page. The studies are easy to use and I don't need to carry both it and my Bible when I'm traveling and working on my Bible Study.

1-3 john, and revelations

i read a lot of scott hahn so i decided to read his notes on the new testament and genesis...

i read them, i love them!!!

each front of one has the author - not who he was, but everybody he could be! then he goes on to explain all the main couldbes of the author, and why most picked the author they picked... and then the church's answer to it...

he explains the layout of the book, who it was written to/for, and why...

in the notes, at the bottom of each page of the book, the notes are abundant...some notes, because if you put in every note on every thing you end up with...the catechism, lol! no seriously the notes are worth reading, especially "contents and unity", "living tradition", "analogy of faith", topical essays, word studies, and charts...

i like curtis mitch, too...but the intro to the gospels, etc, arent in the individual books, and the study questions for understanding and for application arent in the new testament...

im looking forward to the old testament coming out individually and the old testament as whole...

also some (i dont know how many or how to order them) comes in large, easy to read format! great for stroke, lol!

Excellent Resource

I have used a couple of different study guides and Bibles in the past, and the Ignatius Study Bible is by far the most user friendly.
The notes examine the Scripture passages on several different levels that aid understanding from both spiritual and historical perspectives. The notes are concise, yet very informative, and they connect the dots between the Old and New Testaments and between Scripture and Church teaching. The design of the book itself is also a plus. Unlike others that are bulky and hard to highlight or write in, the Ignatius version lies flat and stays open allowing one to easily highlight and make notations as well as refer to while using other sources such as one might do in a Bible study class. While I am still a fan of the Navarre Bible, Ignatius will now be my first choice.
